C.A.R.E.S. is a small non-profit community organization. As a no-kill shelter we dedicate extra time to work with each animal and help hundreds of animals per year find their forever homes. Your donations whether one-time or monthly allow us to focus less on fundraising and more on finding homes for these animals. Every contribution no matter how small makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. If you’re interested in supporting us in other ways please continue reading below.

Support C.A.R.E.S. in Other Meaningful Ways

C.A.R.E.S. depends on the generosity of volunteers, local residents, and businesses to support the animals in our care. We currently need volunteers specifically for dog walking and exercise. To get started, visit our Volunteer page or email buriencares@gmail.com to schedule an orientation.

Donations of pet food, cleaning supplies, equipment, and other needed items help supplement what the shelter purchases and allow us to direct more resources toward animal care. Every contribution—large or small—makes a meaningful difference.

Material donations are accepted during regular business hours. Please review our current wish lists below or contact the shelter before bringing items not listed.

  • We currently accept the following donations at the shelter:

    • Wet kitten food

    • Wet and dry dog food

    • Wet and dry cat food

    • Clumping cat litter only

    • Bath towels and hand towels

    • Flea treatments and other pet-care or medical supplies

    • Open bags of pet food, provided the food is usable and in its original packaging

    Please contact the shelter before donating medications or medical supplies. We cannot accept needles or syringes, including diabetic needles.

    At this time, we cannot accept:

    • Human bedding, blankets, or sheets

    • Cloth pet beds

    • Large cat trees

    • Pet balls

    These items cannot be safely processed using our shelter’s sanitation equipment and requirements.

    If an item is not listed, please contact CARES before bringing it to the shelter. Donations are accepted during regular business hours.

  • You may drop or mail off check donations and cash donations in person are also accepted. Click Here to make a direct credit/debit card monetary donation, or click on the ‘Donate.’ button at the top of any page.

  • If a monthly gift works better for you, becoming a monthly supporter is a simple way to provide steady care for animals throughout the year.

  • Many employees can support Burien CARES through payroll deduction at work. Washington State employees and others may give through the Combined Fund Drive (CFD), a secure and convenient way to donate directly from your paycheck.

  • Other -- Programs like Fred Meyer Community Rewards, send a percentage-based monetary donation to your selected non-profit.  If you’re a Fred Meyer or Amazon customer, sign up today and support C.A.R.E.S. every time you make a purchase!     1. Sign up for a Fred Meyer online account if you haven't already (you'll need your Fred Meyer Rewards Card number).

    2. Log into your account, and scroll to the bottom where it says ‘Community Rewards.’ Click ‘Enroll.’

    3. C.A.R.E.S. is listed by our full name, ‘Community Animal Resource & Education Society.’  You can just search ‘Community Animal.’

    4. Select ‘Community Animal Resource & Education Society’ and click ‘Enroll.’ 

    5. You’re done!

 

ALL donations, whether material or monetary, go directly to helping the animals at our shelter. Most in-kind donations are tax-deductible. CARES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Please retain your donation receipt and consult your tax adviser regarding deductibility.

Remember, you can support Burien C.A.R.E.S. simply by being a responsible pet owner! Ensure your pet has a valid city license (available through us for Burien, Federal Way, and Des Moines) and please consider getting them spayed or neutered if you haven’t already.
