🐾 The Importance of Microchipping
One in three pets gets lost at some point in their lives, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). A microchip can make all the difference in bringing them home safely.
Why It Matters
Permanent identification: Unlike collars or tags, a microchip can’t fall off, fade, or be removed.
Faster reunions: When a lost pet is brought to a shelter or vet, staff can scan the chip and contact the owner.
Proof of ownership: A registered microchip helps establish rightful ownership in case of theft or disputes.
Lifesaving tool: Microchipped pets are far more likely to be reunited with their families.
At Burien C.A.R.E.S., we have a 65 % success rate in returning lost pets—thanks in large part to microchips and checking Lost & Found listings.
All animals adopted from Burien C.A.R.E.S. are microchipped as part of the adoption process, ensuring they leave the shelter with permanent identification already in place.
Please note:
Burien C.A.R.E.S. does not currently offer microchipping services at our shelter. We encourage pet owners to visit their local veterinarian to have their pets microchipped and registered.
