become a foster
Fostering involves caring for a shelter pet or litter temporarily, whether that be dogs or litters of kittens or puppies. Many kittens and puppies arrive at the shelter too young and fragile for permanent homes and need special care. The young and adult dogs that come to the shelter are often scared. You can save lives and offer quiet respite by fostering with CARES. To become a foster parent, please review and complete our waiver. Upon acceptance or contact, shelter staff will contact you for additional information and a foster application and foster manual review will need to be signed.
Review the Foster Program Manual for details on what to expect.
Complete the Foster Care Policy Review
Complete call Q&A with CARES Staff (You will be asked what type of home, if other animals in home, etc.)
Complete Foster Application (available in person or can be emailed)
After above, we will send you away with an animal or you will be added to our list and contacted when pets need placement.
Requirements:
Must be 21 years or older.
All resident dogs and cats must have up-to-date vaccines (proof required).
If you want to foster a dog and have dogs at home, we may recommend you bring your dogs to the shelter to meet each potential foster dog to prevent personality clashes; unless you know your animals temperament (appointment may be made).
